Hi! I’m Molly, the creator of Balanced & Blissful.
I suppose my health journey really began in 2012 during my junior year of high school. I was fed up with always being slightly overweight and feeling self-conscious amongst all of my fit friends, so I began eating right and working out and I lost about 20 pounds over the next year.
Then, during the summer of 2014, I was diagnosed with a thyroid nodule that was suspicious for cancer, so I had a total thyroidectomy. This was my first big health scare and a strong reminder that life is short. It gave me the courage to do something I had been wanting to do for years – my 200 hour yoga teacher training!
I completed my teacher training over 10 months and graduated in August of 2015. It was a life-changing endeavor that improved my yoga practice, my confidence, and my relationship with myself. I learned many important things that proved to serve me very soon…
In September 2015 I returned to the full-time college I was attending for my Junior year. From the very beginning I knew that things didn’t feel right. The anxiety disorder that I’d been effectively dealing with for 8 years had come back with a vengeance, and I was finding that I was so exhausted I could barely make it through the day. This was a marked difference from my first two years of college.
After a few months of testing and seeing various doctors, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Sjogren’s Syndrome. In short, autoimmune diseases cause your body to recognize healthy cells as invaders and begin attacking them.
At this point I realized that I needed to make some major life changes, so I transferred schools, moved home, and began to incorporate many holistic health and wellness techniques into my life. I already knew the importance of healthy eating and exercise, but I began learning about the importance of self-care, alternative medicine like acupuncture and essential oils, and more.
About This Blog:
I wrote my very first post right after being diagnosed with Sjogren’s Syndrome as a way to explain to my family and friends why I was MIA. My world was thrown into a whirlwind of chaos and I was struggling to make sense of my new life. Writing served as both an outlet for my own feelings and a way to explain them to others.
I called the blog “Simply Molly” for the first year-and-a-half, and I posted about anything and everything that piqued my curiosity. After this time, I realized the direction my blog was taking (it was evolving into a health/wellness/lifestyle blog) and I wanted to continue to explore it!
After a lot of thought, I changed the name to “Balanced and Blissful.” I was finally at a point in my life when I felt blissful a lot of the time, and it was because I was living a balanced lifestyle, so I wanted to share that with others in the hopes that it could help them find bliss too!
